AUTHORS: Mary E. Wood, Wyoming Game and Fish Department

ABSTRACT: Over the past thirty years, surveillance has shown an increase in the prevalence and distribution of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in Wyoming. Recent research demonstrates deer declines in areas where CWD prevalence is high. Dr. Wood will review the long history of CWD monitoring and research in Wyoming emphasizing important lessons learned, most notably how the significantly prolonged timeline for disease spread leads to difficulty in understanding true impacts and communicating concern over CWD to the public.
